The Goddess Womb - A Tantra Teaching

In this episode, Chandresh shares one of the teachings of the tantra science and rituals to honor and understand the divine feminine within.

The Goddess Womb practice takes you to the space where you were even before you were conceived. This is a very deep and intense practice where you can transcend the family trauma, karmic contracts, cultural conditioning, and deepest fears.

The goddess womb has nothing to do with your biological connections, but everything to do with your conscious connections and divine consciousness. It is a teaching that is very deep and very layered.

This episode is a tiny introduction to this concept. Our hope is people will find this episode as a good kick start toward this journey.

Episode Transcript

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

Breathe in, breathe out, relax, keep your heart open. Keep your awareness receptive. In today's episode, we are going to dive deeper into what I call the divine womb or the goddess womb that we all are part of. Imagine where were you before you were conceived in your mother's womb, what part of collective consciousness you were in, and how about that collective consciousness wraps you in its embrace, in its warmth and take away all the stress, all the worries, all the drama away from your life. It sounds delicious to me and I hope it sounds delicious to you as well. And today in this episode, my only hope is that you and I can explore the route, the map toward that goddess womb. I am Chandresh Bhardwaj, and this is Break The Norms.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

Namaste, everyone. I hope you're doing great. I hope you are safe, warm, and comfortable where you are. I want to express my gratitude for the Cultural Appropriation Podcast, the feedback, the support, the warmth that you sent that podcast. That's beautiful. And there have been many interesting, powerful questions been coming, and I have always felt that I don't have a specific place or platform where you all can ask me questions. And I'm not a big fan of the Instagram messaging or Facebook messaging, because it all gets cluttered. I always wanted a specific in a place where each one of you can send your questions and I can respond either over the podcast or live videos or other mediums. So to make it a little easier, and I hope it does become easier, we have created a new email called askcb@leelagurukul.com. You'll find this email in the show notes. Save that email in your phone. Whenever you have any deeper question, just to write it to us.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

My team will access it and they will study it, they will forward it to me, and then we'll decide whether this deserves a podcast episode or maybe a video or a mix of both, or if it's a very personal direct question, we could also send you a direct response for that. But that email is going to be the email where you can ask me questions. And the email is askcb@leelagurukul.com. Also, speaking of Leela Gurukul, please do sign up, if you have not. The time is not far that the first announcement and the course, the program will be out. And I'm supremely excited to share that with the podcast community. And in case you sign up, you will have the first access to the applications and to the whole process as we release it. And today's episode is inspired from the live meditations that I have been doing on the Leela Gurukul Instagram page.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

I did this meditation on the goddess womb a few days ago, and the second one I'll be doing most likely in few days from today, the next Sunday. And one of the reasons why the goddess womb meditation showed up, because as of right now, February 12th, 2021 to February 20th, 2021, we have this auspicious ritual called, Navaratri, which means the nine nights of enlightenment. That's ongoing right now, and this is the sacred, secret Navaratri, which is only confined between the teacher and the students. And for this one, I'm only working with the students. But for the public Navaratri, which will happen in April, of course, I'll be sharing about it on podcast and Instagram, but my bigger hope is that these Navaratris will become a major part in the Leela Gurukul modules as well. They will become by October, for sure, because the next Navaratri will be in October. But I also wanted that in April we indulgent in the Navaratri experience. So fingers crossed it will happen. And it's due to this Navaratri ritual that I really felt the need to talk about the goddess womb.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

Navaratri, it means the nine nights of enlightenment. It also means the celebration of the Devi consciousness, the divine feminine. And in all honesty, in all vulnerability, if I could talk and share about one aspect of spirituality or my spiritual journey, it would be all about the Devi consciousness. It's the divine feminine that has really opened up my heart. It has really changed my entire journey. And I think my relationship with the feminine within me and around me, it has been shifting. I'm so grateful that it has been shifting. Just like all of you, I'm also a product of this society, part of this collective noise out there, and I have been learning, trying to understand how I used to witness the divine feminine, and I wanted to change that. And I hope slowly, gradually, I keep on changing.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

Like I said a few weeks ago I think in the podcast, there were certain poetry's that I wrote many years ago and I wish I could now revise them, but there were certain poems where I felt, "Oh, I don't want to write about the divine feminine this way now." And I don't, and maybe in five years from today, I'll describe the Devi consciousness in a different way, which I hope I do, because the more you know, the more you learn, the more new ways you want to cultivate to honor that divine feminine within you and around you. So in this ritual, every day we have been honoring different forms of the divine feminine. And what happened a few days ago, I was sitting in the ritual and my mind was going through certain things. I had a long day at work, I was making sure or everything with Leela and my students, it's going perfectly.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

So I was just analyzing and reflecting upon all the latest sessions and the Leela work that has been happening, and I was distracted. I mean, I think that's the right word. And the ritual was going on and physically I felt uneasy, because obviously I was not fully present. And then I realized this ritual will keep going on for five hours more and I need to find comfort in this moment in this space. And that's when this energy opened up. We were doing the ritual and I knew that I need to be more present, more effortless in this, and I felt, I can tell I am making more effort, because I have been traveling. And this was the day one of the ritual, I believe, and on day one it takes time for your body to sit straight for five to seven hours. And I knew that I am making that effort, for obvious reasons. The body is taking its time to sit in a certain way.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

And then we were speaking to the students around who were present in the ritual. Not many because of COVID-19, but there are very selective students of my father who are called and others joined through different mediums. So we were talking about the Devi consciousness and all of that, and then this, not idea, but this glimpse showed up in my awareness that the only time we probably did not make so much effort to receive was the time when we were in the womb of our mother. When you were conceived there, everything was taken care off. You were surrounded with darkness, warmth, and you were counting on that trust that you are given the light, the strength, the food, the energy that you need to survive and to bloom.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

And fortunately, it does turn out to be a perfect recipe for so many children who are born. And, of course, there are many for whom, unfortunately, it doesn't go very well, and there are many factors behind that. But I felt, we don't remember, I don't remember the time when I was in my mother's womb, but how safe, how comfortable, how warm that space is. And in tantra, we don't call goddesses, goddesses. We don't even call them Devi, really. Devi means goddess in Sanskrit. What really we call them is Ma. Ma means divine mother, and every tantra practice is focused on the honoring, the playfulness, the sacredness you share with that divine mother. Everything is weaved around that one lesson that you are honoring the divine mother so don't make it complicated, because when we meet our loved ones, our mother, we don't make things complicated.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

So that was the entire intention in that moment that really made me reflect upon what I'm calling the goddess womb. And I'm going to try to explain what goddess womb is all about and hopefully it will make sense to you. We will be having plenty of conversations on this in the Leela Gurukul modules, because it's not an easy topic to understand and definitely a very layered topic to absorb into your meditation practice. So goddess womb will be the space where you were before you were conceived. You could call it divine consciousness. You could call it the womb of Devi. You could call it that unknown space. Many labels. I'm going with the label of the goddess womb. And the reason I'm going ahead with the goddess womb is because all the tantra gurus, all the sacred sages of tantra, they have gone so deeper into this work, and the way they connect to Ma Kali, it's unbelievably beautiful, so powerful. And they inspire me every single day.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

Watching my own guru and hearing about other gurus who have been here before me, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, one of the most revered gurus in tantra, his relationship with Goddess Kali, Ma Kali, it's unbelievably beautiful and I feel if you can go deeper into the goddess womb practice, it changes everything. It changes how we receive that divine healing. And this episode is really all about healing, the healing space that we can get from that powerful force. Now, one major element I want to discuss here, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to record this podcast as well, when I did the live meditation last week on Instagram page, I called it the goddess womb meditation. And there were a few students who reached out and they said, "Whenever you talk about Ma Kali, you use the word mother or the goddess womb, we think about our mothers and it brings us drama. It brings us uneasiness, and we cannot trust that energy of the mother. It's been toxic, traumatic, and we don't want to go back."

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

And they also told me that, "We get it, you always tell us the right meditation is uncomfortable but relevant. But it's very uncomfortable to go toward that mother energy space. How do we handle that?" Now, I mean, there's two answers to it. One answer is, when I talk about calling the Goddess Kali or Ma Kali as mother, I'm talking about the divine mother, the cosmic mother, not the biological mother. But this particular word, the goddess womb, or the goddess womb meditation, it's not even connected to the biological aspect in any way. We are not even going there. The goddess womb is all about going beyond the labels, the roles, the circus that's around you and really going deeper into the layers of where you were before you were conceived in the body of a human. Because the truth is your parents, the people around you, the family, although they are connected with your journey, especially your mother and father, but also the truth, is in your existence, they play the role of a very tiny segment of the entire consciousness that you are.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

The problem is the human mind feels that it's the center of the universe, and that's why everything feels too personal. But the truth is, they are a very tiny segment of the entire picture, and so are you. It's like a drop in the ocean. Very little, very tiny, but it has a role. That doesn't demean the role you're playing, but it's a beautiful understanding, a beautiful lesson to know that you are part of that big ocean. So when you think about going back into the goddess womb, going back into that sacred space, the mind will bring the family, the trauma, and all of that. But this talk, this meditation is not about the biological aspects. It's about transcending the biological aspects and realizing that I am still the writer of my destiny. I am a conscious choice maker.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

While I do have layers and elements of my ancestors within me, but the beautiful truth is, I also carry the power, the strength to change my story. I was sharing this with my student early morning that if there's a lion in a city and that lion is raised with the dogs, in 10 years, the lion will behave and do everything like a dog. And then you send the lion back into jungle after 10 years, poor thing won't even know how to behave like a lion, and maybe it will be killed within hours of being there. That's the tragedy of being in that animal consciousness. They're wired. And the reason I came up with this example, because I saw this video on Twitter a few days ago I think in some part of Asia. It could be India, Malaysia. I don't know what country was that. There was a leopard who was probably domestically raised and he was behaving like a dog.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

It broke my heart to see such a powerful animal behaving so fragile, so weak, and people around him were making fun of him. It was one of the most terrible things for me to see. And I couldn't understand the language around, so it could be not India, because it didn't sound like any Indian language. Anyway, the point is, that's tragic and it happens a lot. It happens with us also. Sometimes you are a lion, but you were raised like a dog and you will behave like one. And sometimes you're a dog, but you are raised by cats and you will behave like a cat. But the beautiful part, the plot twist is, human being still carries the power, the strength to rewire that entire story. You could be raised with lions or dogs for 10, 20, 30 years, but if you were sent back to the city, you adapt, you will learn, if you're willing to. And that's the beauty of human consciousness, no matter what, it will reach it's peak. You cannot stop the human consciousness from becoming the Buddha consciousness. All you need is the willingness, the surrendering.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

And when we talk about the goddess womb, the surrendering spirit is needed. There's no method, no formula to surrender, but surrendering is the method to everything. And surrendering really happens as a result of trust. When you are able to trust, things will change. When you're able to trust, you will rewire your journey. I feel one of the challenges that we have created for ourselves is that we are trying too hard to fit in. We are trying too hard to be civilized, to obey unconsciously. We have been brainwashed to follow a certain system, and that system takes away our natural ability to spread the fragrance. And when I say we have been obeying blindly, I'm not telling you to start up fights and create trouble everywhere. What I'm trying to remind you is that there is a way to consciously disobey. There's a way to unlearn how you were taught to suffer, and that can be done through the power of awareness, through getting to know how deep your strength goes.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

It's possible by tapping into your meditation. The goddess womb is available to all of us, and every now and then you need to go into it. How you go into it when you are meditating, one of the methods is turn off all the light, sit down, meditate, and feel what you need to feel. Invite the vulnerability. Invite that softness, that gentleness, and remind yourself, the only thing I know is that I know nothing, and with absolute trust I'll go into this experience. The goddess womb experience shows up differently for different people. I've had people who scream, jump, and then fully slip into the meditation. I've had people who build a very sacred relationship with the divine mother and start building that goddess womb energy. As I said, it's not an easy topic. There are books and books and tantra written about it, so it's something we'll keep exploring.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

But today, I only want you to become open, aware, and alert to this possibility that you can transcend the karmic contracts. You transcend the family conditioning, the cultural conditioning, the family drama, and go back to the space where this family didn't exist, your name, body, emotions didn't exist, and you were just a part of that consciousness. That's the womb where all the healing, all the strength starts to expand. It's obviously quite a task to be available to it, but not at all tough, not at all impossible. What you need to cultivate is trust, consistency, willpower, devotion, and a constant remembrance of your own potential. Those who are interested, you can go to the Leela Gurukul Instagram page, and you will see two meditations, the Goddess Womb Meditation Part One, and then Goddess Womb Meditation Part Two, and hopefully that will help you to go deeper into this practice as well.

Chandresh Bhardwaj:

And, of course, as you go deeper into the goddess womb, there are specific rituals, mantra, very intense, heavy, and layered spiritual work that needs to happen, and that cannot be explained well through the podcast, and my hope is a Leela will enable that platform for us to go deeper into these kinds of rituals. Thank you everyone for listening. Thank you for showing up on this journey for yourself. Be safe, be well, and I'll speak to you next week.
